I’m looking at my to-do list, and I would love to delegate much of it to my assistant. I’m sure you have this feeling frequently, too.
Well, what if your AI didn’t just understand your words, but knew how you worked? How your team writes reports, formats reports, or sends follow-up emails. That’s the idea behind Claude Skills, a new feature from Anthropic that makes Claude feel less like a chatbot and more like a capable colleague.

Claude Skills: AI That Understands Your Workflow
Claude Skills are like folders filled with instructions, scripts, and resources. When you start a task, Claude picks the right folder to deliver results that match your process, tone, and structure. It’s a shift from “ask and answer” to “understand and execute.”
You might have one Skill for marketing reports, another for social posts, and another for meeting summaries. Claude decides which one to use, loads the relevant details, and gets to work. No coding required, you can describe a workflow step by step, and Claude follows it exactly. For advanced users, you can add scripts or connect data sources, but it’s optional.
Why it matters
Most chatbots are smart but generic. They can write an email, but not your email. Claude Skills solves this by packaging your organisation’s knowledge into reusable modules.
Real-world examples:
- Marketing: Generate Google Ads or social posts that always hit the right brand tone, comply with rules, test versions, track performance, and feed insights.
- Comms & Operations: Automate slide decks, reports, and updates, tasks that used to take hours. Companies like Box, Rakuten, and Canva report major time savings.
- Meetings: Structure notes, create summaries, and draft follow-up emails in your organisation’s voice. Claude can also analyse data, spot trends, and detect anomalies.
- Customer Support: Answer questions, route leads, check compliance, and stay on message, pulling from your company’s Skills, not generic scripts.
How it works
Claude uses “progressive disclosure.” it scans Skill names and descriptions, selects the right one, and then loads the full details, keeping everything fast, secure, and efficient. Skills are modular; you can stack them (e.g., analyse data, create a chart, write a summary) in one session.
Portability & consistency
Build a Skill once, and it works across Claude’s web app, code tool, or API. Each Skill becomes a piece of institutional knowledge; your SOPs, templates, and processes are automated. That’s a huge win for onboarding, compliance, and quality control.
The bigger picture
Unlike GPTs, which are personal sandboxes, Claude Skills are business infrastructure. They prioritise consistency, not novelty. Integrated with the Model Context Protocol (MCP), Claude can access your CRM, documents, and analytics, knowing when and how to use them.
The mindset shift
With Skills, Claude doesn’t just follow instructions; he actively manages workflows. It moves from “assistant” to “partner.” Solo professionals get faster execution, teams gain standardisation and scale. AI becomes practical, reliable, and tailored to your organisation.
The story isn’t just that Claude can write better emails; it’s that it can write your emails, your way, every time. Claude Skills are the start of AI that understands not just language, but your context, and that’s when AI becomes genuinely useful.
