AI Six Podcast Episode 221: AI Masterclass with Joanne Sweeney

By

Artificial Intelligence isn’t just the next big thing anymore. It’s already transforming the way we work, communicate, and create. For marketers, communicators, and business leaders, AI is a golden opportunity to innovate, add value, and future-proof our careers.

In my recent AI Masterclass, which I hosted for everyone who pre-ordered my new book AI Playbook, I took participants through my favourite AI tools and showed them how to go from simply using AI to leading with it.

Here are the key lessons from that masterclass to help you start your own AI journey:

1. Start with AI Literacy

Before you can lead with AI, you need to understand it. That begins with AI literacy.

Becoming AI-literate doesn’t mean learning how to code. It means knowing what AI is, how it works, and how to talk about it confidently in your workplace.

If you’ve read AI Playbook, you’ll find a glossary of key terms to help you get familiar with the language. You can also listen to my AI6 Podcast, which shares six-minute daily lessons to keep you learning in short, practical bursts.

“When you can talk about AI in the rooms where you’re influencing, that’s when you become an AI leader.”

Make an intention to become AI literate. When you can explain AI clearly to your team, your clients, or your boss, you replace fear with understanding, and that’s where transformation begins.

2. Identify Your AI Use Case

Once you understand AI, it’s time to put it into action. Choose one task or process that could be improved with AI.

This is what I call your AI use case.

It could be drafting social media captions, summarising data, or writing reports. The goal is to show the “before and after” to prove the difference AI can make in your workflow.

“What matters isn’t the size of your project. It’s your ability to explain how AI adds value.”

You should also think about guardrails. Every AI use case needs clear human oversight and ethical guidelines. That’s how you ensure your results are accurate, transparent, and responsible.

3. Build Your Own AI Assistant

Here’s where things get really exciting.

Instead of starting from scratch every time you open ChatGPT, you can create your own AI assistant that’s trained on your work, your tone, and your methods.

In the masterclass, I showed participants how to do this using ChatGPT Pro. The first step is to create what’s called a corpus, your collection of knowledge. This can include documents, PDFs, videos, spreadsheets, and anything else that defines your work.

Once your corpus is ready, you can combine it with AI to train your assistant using a process called Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG).

Think of it like training a new employee. You’re giving your assistant access to your knowledge, your style, and your expectations.

“Your AI assistant becomes your digital team member. One that never gets tired, never forgets, and learns directly from you.”

During the masterclass, I built my own assistant called the AI6 Podcast Editor. She helps me write my daily six-minute podcast scripts. I share my voice notes, research, and ideas, and she turns them into structured scripts — even asking follow-up questions to help me think deeper.

That’s the real magic of AI. It doesn’t just do the work. It helps you think better.

4. Embrace Agentic AI

Once you’ve mastered your own AI assistant, the next step is agentic AI.

This is where AI moves from simply assisting you to working independently. Agentic AI can connect to your CRM, website, email system, and social media accounts to perform tasks without your direct input.

Imagine briefing an agent to publish a blog, send an email campaign, and update your website — all while you focus on strategy.

“Agentic AI is powerful, but it needs strong oversight and governance. Humans must always stay in control.”

Used wisely, agentic AI can save time, improve efficiency, and free you to focus on higher-value work.

5. Remember: Your Expertise Is Your Superpower

AI is only as good as the human using it. The people who will thrive in the AI age are domain experts — professionals who know their field inside out.

Your experience, intuition, and insight are what make AI valuable.

“When you combine your expertise with AI, you’re unstoppable.”

AI doesn’t replace you. It amplifies you. The value equation is simple: You + AI = Better.

Your AI Journey Starts Now

Here’s how you can begin today:

  1. Get AI literate. Learn the basics and stay informed.
  2. Test one AI use case. Try it on a small project.
  3. Create your own assistant. Train it with your knowledge.
  4. Explore agentic AI. Learn how autonomous systems can work for you.

Think of this as your professional development plan for the next 12 months.

If you haven’t yet got your copy of AI Playbook, you can find it at AIMarketingPlaybook.ie or on Amazon. I’ll also be recording the audiobook this autumn, with plans to release it on Audible before Christmas.

And if you want to keep learning in small doses, listen to my AI6 Podcast. Six minutes a day is all it takes to boost your AI confidence and creativity.

“AI is not here to take your job. It’s here to give you superpowers.”

Let’s lead the AI revolution together — responsibly, creatively, and with human brilliance at the centre.
