You can’t scroll through social media these days without seeing dozens of AI-generated images, videos, and even digital influencers. While it is revolutionary, the question for today’s podcast is – what value is there to being a creator in an AI-powered economy?
Hello and welcome back to AI SIX. We have been shortlisted for the All-Ireland Podcast Awards in the Business and Innovation category.
Nilay Patel warns that the proliferation of AI slop is going to make life even harder for creators.
We all know that AI is automating certain tasks, especially for creators who churn out generic or mass-produced content. Stock images, spokesperson videos, and templated blog posts, AI is leading in these spaces. But that doesn’t mean all creators need to panic. Those who’ve cultivated a loyal audience, who share their authentic voice, and connect deeply with followers? They’re not being replaced anytime soon. Audiences crave genuine connection, and AI can’t easily replicate that human spark. I believe the need for more original content is what is going to help you win in the age of AI slop.
What’s happening now is a shift toward hybrid creativity. Today’s creators are using AI as a collaborator. I am using it this way. Right now, I’m sitting in my home podcast studio using Riverside.FM to record, and it will create a series of video ‘Magic Clips’ for me. You see, while this is an audio-only podcast, I do record myself with a camera on to generate teaser clips for my socials.
This sort of partnership with AI lets creators focus on strategy, storytelling, and audience engagement, areas where human creativity and empathy still win out.
Despite the naysayers, the creator economy is still growing. Forecasts point toward nearly half a trillion dollars by 2027, thanks to AI’s role in unlocking new creative capacities and lowering barriers to entry for would-be creators. That’s according to the Goldman Sachs 2023 Creator Economy Report.
So if anything, AI is fueling growth, not just competition.
But there’s another side to this story. As AI-generated content floods our feeds, what stands out now is authenticity. Audiences are more skeptical, looking for real stories and transparent creators. In this new era, successful creators will be those who harness AI while still delivering their own unique perspective and voice.
So, will AI “kill” the creator economy? Not quite. It’s evolving, not ending. The future belongs to creators who adapt, embrace AI as a tool, and double down on originality and trust.
