AI SIX Podcast Episode 266: Time’s Person of 2025 – The Architects of AI

By

TIME Magazine has named its 2025 Person of the Year. And it’s not a politician. It’s not a celebrity. It’s not even one person.

It’s the “Architects of AI.”

Eight tech leaders who, according to TIME, have delivered “the age of thinking machines.”

I’ll be honest — this choice felt overdue.

Over the past year, I’ve trained more than 3,000 people on how to use AI in their work. I’ve sat in rooms with government teams, accountants, marketers, and senior executives, all trying to make sense of what this technology means for them.

So when I saw this TIME cover, my reaction was simple:

Finally. The mainstream is catching up to what many of us have been living every day.

Who made the cover?

TIME didn’t pick AI itself. They picked the people building it. And that matters.

Here’s who they chose:

  • Jensen Huang (Nvidia)
The man whose chips power almost every major AI system on the planet. Nvidia went from making graphics cards for gamers to becoming one of the most valuable companies in the world.
  • Sam Altman (OpenAI)
The face of ChatGPT, the tool that introduced AI to the masses. It now has more than 800 million weekly users.
  • Elon Musk (xAI / Grok)
Love him or loathe him, he’s building AI and actively shaping policy and public debate around it.
  • Mark Zuckerberg (Meta)
Who has gone all-in on open-source AI with Llama, betting that openness will shape the future.
  • Dario Amodei (Anthropic)
The CEO behind Claude — my personal AI of choice. Anthropic is focused on AI safety and building systems that are helpful, honest, and aligned with human values.
  • Demis Hassabis (Google DeepMind)
His team recently won a Nobel Prize for their work on protein folding. Not hype — real scientific breakthroughs.
  • Lisa Su (AMD)
One of only two women on the list, and the only hardware CEO besides Jensen Huang. A quiet but formidable force in AI infrastructure.
  • Fei-Fei Li (Stanford / World Labs)
The creator of ImageNet, the dataset that made modern AI possible. She’s now leading her own startup, World Labs.

Why this choice matters

TIME didn’t name “AI” as the Person of the Year. They named the architects behind it.

That’s an important distinction.

AI isn’t some abstract force that appeared out of nowhere. It’s being built by people — people with ambitions, funding, and very specific visions of what the future should look like.

Five of the eight people on that cover are billionaires. Combined, they’re worth over $870 billion.

They are making decisions right now about:

  • What AI can do
  • What it can’t do
  • Who gets access
  • And who doesn’t

Those decisions will affect every single one of us.

The line that stuck with me

TIME summed it up with this:

“2025 was the year when artificial intelligence’s full potential roared into view, and when it became clear that there will be no turning back or opting out.”

And that’s the real takeaway.

This isn’t a trend you can ignore.
This isn’t a tool you can put off learning.

AI is here, it’s accelerating, and it’s being shaped by a small group of very powerful people.

Which makes one thing clear for the rest of us:

We don’t just need to use AI. We need to understand who’s building it — and why.
