AI SIX Podcast Episode 468: How I’m Building Websites and MVPs With AI

By

In this episode of my Building With AI series, I’m sharing how I used vibe coding and tools like Lovable to build the GovComms.ai landing page — and what that process taught me about keeping human judgement at the centre of AI-assisted development.

From Brief to Build: Why the Traditional Process Creates Distance

If you’ve ever briefed a designer or developer on a website, you know the challenge. You have a clear vision in your head, but by the time it passes through a brief, a design draft, a round of revisions and a development handover, something can get lost. Every translation creates distance between the original idea and the finished result.

That’s not a criticism of talented designers and developers — it’s just the nature of the process. The person who best understands the product often ends up standing at the edge of a technical workflow, waiting for the next version to come back.

How I Built GovComms.ai With Lovable

When I built the landing page for GovComms.ai, I worked differently. I used Lovable to create an early working version through vibe coding — describing what I wanted in natural language, seeing a tangible result quickly, and then improving it through repeated iteration.

I voiced and typed what I wanted. I reviewed what came back. I changed the copy, refined the structure, reconsidered the hierarchy, and kept adjusting until the page better communicated the product I was bringing to market. The landing page is now live at govcomms.ai.

The Vibe Is Not Enough — Judgement Still Matters

Vibe coding is sometimes discussed as if describing what you want is the hard part. It isn’t. Lovable didn’t produce the finished page from one instruction. There were many iterations, and those iterations are where the quality came from.

I changed my mind. I refined the proposition. I removed things that didn’t earn their place. And as the work progressed, I got better at directing the system. AI accelerated the feedback loop — but it did not remove the need for taste, decision-making or patience.

You still need to know when a page is unclear, when a message is weak, when the structure doesn’t serve the visitor. Natural language makes development more accessible, but judgement is what turns accessibility into quality.

What This Means for Designers, Developers and Small Organisations

I don’t think this makes designers and developers irrelevant. Products that need deeper engineering, security, accessibility and expert visual design still require those skills. What has changed is when those skills are needed.

Instead of arriving with a vague idea and a long brief, I can now arrive with a working version, clearer evidence of what I want, and a much more developed product proposition. That makes collaboration more focused and more productive.

For small organisations and innovators, this is significant. A landing page, prototype or MVP no longer has to be held up by the time and cost of a full traditional development process. You can:

  • Test your thinking earlier
  • Learn from a working version
  • Decide whether an idea deserves more investment before committing major resources

Voice Is Central to My Process

For me, voice is at the heart of how I use these tools. I can speak through the proposition, describe how I want someone to feel when they land on the page, and explain what isn’t working in the current version. The AI gives me something tangible to respond to. That makes the process quicker — but more importantly, it makes the finished work more recognisably mine.

The lesson from GovComms.ai isn’t that you hand creativity over to a machine. It’s that AI can shorten the distance between imagination and execution.
