ChatGPT’s newest feature lets you talk to it using your voice, making conversations feel much more natural and interactive.
You can literally just have a chat with it now. Say what you need, and it answers—no typing, no fuss. It’s surprisingly smooth, almost like chatting to a really switched-on friend who happens to know… well, nearly everything. In this episode, I’ll share how I’ve been using it day-to-day, where it fits into my workflow, and what it might mean for how we all get things done.
Hello and welcome back to the AI SIX podcast, where I keep you up-to-date about the world of AI in just six minutes a day. From the tech to applying the tools in your marketing and comms role, or how you need to adapt if you’re the boss, I’ve got you covered.
I’ve been testing the new ChatGPT voice feature over the weekend and it’s pretty cool. If you’re using GPT-4o (OpenAI’s latest model), here’s what’s new and worth testing.
✅ Talk to it, like a human
You can just speak to ChatGPT now, and it replies instantly, no weird pauses, no robotic tone. It sounds natural, smooth, and even a bit expressive. It actually feels like a conversation.
✅ It keeps up, even when you jump around
It remembers what you’re saying, gets your tone, and follows along, even if you interrupt, change your mind, or ask a follow-up mid-sentence. Just like chatting with a real person.
✅ Pick a voice that suits you
You can choose from different voices – like Nova, Sky, or Breeze – each with their own vibe and rhythm. It’s a small thing, but it makes the experience feel way more personal.
How to Use It
- Open a chat (or a Project) in ChatGPT on your device.
- Tap the microphone icon to start talking.
- ChatGPT will listen, process your voice input, and reply with a spoken response (and text, if you prefer).
- You can interrupt or clarify your question at any time, just like a real conversation
Why this new feature matters
- Feels more like chatting to a real person
Voice mode makes ChatGPT sound and respond more naturally, like having a real conversation instead of talking to a robot. - Quicker and easier to use
It saves time, especially when you’re busy, on the go, or just don’t feel like typing. You can speak, get your answer, and move on. - Great for everyone
It’s helpful for people who find typing hard or just prefer to talk things out. Voice makes ChatGPT more inclusive and user-friendly for all kinds of needs.
This new voice feature is part of a broader push to make ChatGPT more interactive, context-aware, and useful in everyday life, moving it from a text-based chatbot to a proactive, conversational AI assistant.
