Aisling Heffernan

Aisling Heffernan

Heritage Services Promotions Officer, Office of Public Works

Aisling Heffernan works with the OPW as Heritage Services Promotions Officer, attending business to business and business to customer trade events and promoting Ireland's iconic heritage sites through print, digital and other media domestically and internationally. During her 25 years to date with the OPW she has been a seasonal guide at Newgrange, Marketing Office and Manager of heritage sites such as the Battle of the Boyne. She has a degree in Art History, Diploma in Arts Administration and a MSc in Occupational Heath and Safety.

Aoife O'Reilly

Digital Communications Manager, safefood

Aoife has 20 years' media experience, working in print, TV, digital and communications. She specialises in delivering digital strategies to engage audiences across platforms including
online, social media, video players and Apps. At safefood, Aoife manages digital communications for campaigns, education and promotional activities across the island of Ireland.


Christina Brauer

Google consultant and trainer

Christina is an international digital marketing expert, orginally from Germany but living in London.

She consults and trains NGOs, public sector organizations and start-ups on a range of digital topics, from marketing strategies and social media strategies to tracking and analysing the results of their digital efforts. 

Christina also directly works as a trainer for Google, helping Google’s clients and partner agencies to use their products in the best possible ways. 

Dr Glenn Hurst

Assistant Professor in Chemistry Education, University of York

Dr Glenn Hurst is an Assistant Professor at the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence in the Department of Chemistry at the University of York, UK.

Glenn completed a degree in chemistry at Durham University followed by a PhD in chemical engineering at Newcastle University. Glenn ’s area of research is within all levels of green chemistry education together with utilising social media and game-based learning strategies to transform the student learning experience. 

Glenn regularly publishes in the chemical education and higher education scholarly literature and is currently chair of the Royal Society of Chemistry Higher Education Group. Glenn has recently been shortlisted by Times Higher Education in the ‘Most Innovative Teacher of the Year’ category in 2018, is a finalist in the Teaching Excellence Award category of the Educate North Awards 2019 together with being recognised by Jisc as one of the top ten social media superstars in higher education.

Dan is a UK-based Digital & Social Media Marketing expert that has grown KPS Digital Marketing into a multi-award-winning business that has worked with global and local brands including Fifa, Nestle, Citibank, Eurotunnel and Boston Consulting Group. As well as running KPS, Dan is known for giving his best insights away on stage at events around the world. Fingers at the ready, you’ll be writing a lot of notes.

Dr Paul Connors

National Director of Communications, Health Service Executive

As National Director of Communications for the public health service in Ireland (the HSE), Paul leads a team of approximately 60 communications professionals who co-ordinate and manage a wide range of communications output for the organisation of approximately 120,000 staff. 

Key business streams within his scope of responsibility include press and media, digital and social media, large-scale behavioural-change campaigns and FOI.

In his previous life, he was a Senior Officer in the Irish Defence Forces and served on many overseas missions with both the United Nations and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe(OSCE). 

He completed a primary degree in Business in University College, Galway.  This was followed by a Masters in Communications from DCU.  He completed a PhD in Strategic Major Emergency Communications in 2009. Paul has also been called to the Bar.

Partner Manager, Government & Politics, Facebook & Instagram

Jenny is a Partner Manager on the Government & Politics team, providing guidance and training at scale to her clients to support and deliver their business objectives across Facebook’s apps and services.

She is passionate about digital marketing; both in helping advertisers achieve results that will enable them to thrive in their industries, and in playing a part in fostering creative excellence amidst the mobile revolution. Prior to joining Facebook in 2016, Jenny worked in media agencies for nearly seven years, most recently in Mediavest Ireland working as a digital account planner. 

A proud lifelong Dubliner, Jenny lives in Leixlip, following her passions of travelling, walking, musicals and generally taking in culture whenever she can (mostly eating in different restaurants!). 

Sergeant David Cryan

Communtiy Garda Sergeant at Brideswell Garda Station in Dublin, David Cryan has inspired many through his Operation Transformation weight loss journey, both on TV and on social media.

A participant on the 2018 RTÉ TV series, Sgt. Cryan will share how he had to manage both his personal and professional self in front of the nation and online.

He’s an avid user of Twitter and Instagram and will provide insights into how you can be your best professional and personal self online to motivate others into action.

Melonie has worked with public sector organisations across the globe helping them fully leverage LinkedIn for marketing and communications. She's helped the United States Security Exchange Commission (SEC), Environment Canada, Natural Resources Canada, New Zealand Trade Exchange, Caribbean Association of Investment Promotions Agencies (CAIPA) and Invest in Ontario, to name a few.

Ryan Feeney

Head of Corporate Communications, Police Service of Northern Ireland

Ryan is the Head of PSNI Corporate Communications, joining the Service in April 2019. He is a member of the Service Executive Team with responsibility for Communications, Media, Public Affairs, Public Relations and Engagement.

Before taking up post in the PSNI he was Head of Public Engagement at Queen’s University, Belfast responsible for leading the University’s civic and political engagement programmes which included lobbying, advocacy and policy-oriented campaigns, promoting the University's interests at all civic levels and acting as media spokesperson. He was the curator and coordinator of the 20th Anniversary of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement Building Peace celebrations hosted by the University in April 2018.

Prior to his role in Queen’s University he was a Senior Official and Head of Community Development, Strategy and Public Affairs for the Ulster Gaelic Athletic Association were he was responsible for Community Development, Public Affairs, Community Outreach, Marketing, Communications and Strategic Development. He also served a term as a Visiting Professor of Governance in Policy at Ulster University from 2014 to 2016.

From May 2011 to December 2018 he served as an independent member of Northern Ireland Policing Board. During his tenure his responsibilities included acting as Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee, Vice Chairman of the Human Rights and Professional Standards Committee and lead Board Member for Human Rights and Professional Standards.

He is a graduate of Education with Business Studies and History from St. Mary’s University College, Belfast and holds an MA in Irish History and Politics from Ulster University and an LL.M in Law, Governance and Public Policy from Queen's University, Belfast. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). In 2013 he was the recipient of the CIM Leadership Excellence Award for best local Marketing Director. In 2011 he was a participant on the US Department of Commerce and International Fund for Ireland sponsored American Management and Business Internship (AMBIT) based in Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia

Communications Manager with the Ombudsman for Children’s Office (OCO)

Aoife is responsible for designing and implementing an effective communications strategy that raises awareness of the rights and welfare of children living in Ireland.

Aoife has led a period of significant change in the OCO with an increased focus on social media and online activity, a more targeted approach to publications and communications output and an update of the OCO brand. Aoife’s role is a varied one that involves public affairs, stakeholder engagement, writing speeches, media training, planning events and engaging with the media. Aoife leads a small, but talented and ambitious team who have stretched the boundaries on what can be done with limited resources.

Before taking on the role of Communications Manager with the Ombudsman for Children's Office, Aoife worked as Fine Gael Press Officer and she was previously Head of the AA Roadwatch. Aoife is from Monaghan but lives in Kildare. If she’s not drinking tea you’ll find her running the roads.

Rachel Wright

Programmes and Campaigns Manager in the HSE Communication Division

Rachel plans, manages and measures health service social marketing, behaviour change and service promotion campaigns. She works across a number of topic areas, including Quit- the national campaign to support people to stop smoking.

Rachel is passionate about using social marketing to empower people to make positive lifestyle changes. She is interested in the potential of social media to provide a supportive environment to encourage behaviour change.

She has previously worked in health promotion and communications in the NGO sector, including roles with Samaritans, Shine and the Irish Cancer Society.


Muiriosa Ryan

Social Media Manager for the HSE

Muiriosa has over 15 years’ experience working in the HSE and has been based in their Communications Division for almost 9 years.

Social media plays an increasing and important role in the organisation and the team manage a number of  HSE social media accounts.  The social team supports the organisation in its journey towards digital maturity by providing expert guidance and training on using social media effectively to support organisational goals and objectives.

Before joining the social media team Muiriosa worked in the HSE Press Office for a number of years where she was involved in proactive and reactive media relations, as well as handling media queries in a fast-paced and highly challenging environment.

Sheena Doyle

University of Limerick Communications Manager

Sheena has worked at the University of Limerick since 2005 as Press Officer and Media Relations Manager building the communications function of the University. She previously held the roles of Director of Press for the ICMSA and Senior Account Executive at Weber Shandwick Dublin.

Tony has been in his role since 2016, coming from a background in managing student support initiatives in the Higher Ed sector and using social media and digital content to engage, resource and support students. He also has a long history in the charity sector of managing digital first marketing, information and awareness campaigns for local and national charity organisations.
