This podcast was inspired by a video I watched featuring Open AIโs Sam Altman. He said: “What you really want is to have this tool that lets you do what you always wanted to do, but better. You want to still be yourself, just amplified.”
So I wanted to write an episode about how to embrace AI while remaining authentically yourself and thriving in an AI-first world. Basically, think of AI as an amplifier of human ability.
Hello and welcome back to the AI SIX podcast, Iโm Joanne Sweeney, here for six minutes a day, Monday to Friday with AI news, views, insights, and tips. On Saturdayโs I bring you the Long-Listen, a conversation with an individual sharing their AI experience and expertise.
Sam Altman was speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, in January 2024, during a panel discussion titled, โGenerative AI: Steam Engine of the Fourth Industrial Revolution?โ

So, the real promise of AI isnโt in replacing who we are, itโs in amplifying what makes us great.
1. AI as an Amplifier of Human Ability
- Altman explained that the core desire behind AI adoption is not to lose oneโs identity or autonomy but to amplify what individuals already want to do.
- He said, โWhat you really want is to have this tool that lets you do what you always wanted to do, but better. You want to still be yourself, just amplified.โ
- This highlights a vision where AI acts like a โsuperpowerโ that enhances human skills, enabling people to be more creative, efficient, and impactful.
2. Democratisation of Powerful Tools
- He stressed that AIโs greatest promise lies in making powerful capabilities accessible to everyone, not just experts or large corporations.
- By removing barriers like coding knowledge or expensive infrastructure, AI tools can empower individuals and small teams to innovate and solve problems at scale.
3. Ethical and Responsible AI Development
- Altman acknowledged the risks and challenges of AI, including misuse, bias, and job displacement.
- He called for collaborative governance and transparent development to ensure AI benefits society broadly, emphasizing the need for safety, fairness, and accountability.
4. The Future of Work and Creativity
- He painted a future where AI handles repetitive, mundane tasks, freeing humans to focus on higher-level creative and strategic work.
- This shift would redefine jobs and industries, but also open new opportunities for meaningful human contribution.
So hereโs the real invitation: donโt wait for perfect. Start using AI in small, intentional ways. If we lead with values, we wonโt lose our voice in the noise and most of all, humans over bots.
