Podcasting is experiencing rapid growth

37% of Irish citizens listen to podcasts on a monthly basis, compared to an EU average of 27%. In the US, a third of the population listen to podcasts.

I have been podcasting for over two years, and as a former broadcast journalist I love going behind the mic.

If you’re a fan of the spoken word or want something relevant to listen to when you’re on the go, podcasts are ideal for getting information and inspiration.

Why not tune into my podcast series on Digital Transformation in the Public Sector.

Why should government and public sector launch a podcast?

Audio is a medium that allows us to dual-task, so listening while working, driving, commuting and even exercising.

Podcasts are also a very intimate medium and trust is built up with the organisation hosting the show.

With trust in Government at an all-time low, according to the 2020 Edelman Trust Barometer, podcasting is a great way to build up a loyal base of listeners who will then become your advocates.

With the next iteration of the world wide web becoming audio first, search results on Google will be audio.

Podcasts educate, inform and entertain and listeners choose to subscribe to them. So it’s a highly engaging form of content.

Podcasts also have a voice. Not the “voice” of a faceless organisation. But a real, live, human voice, with subtleties of inflection, emotion, and emphasis.
