Episode #108:

SOCIAL MEDIA NEWS

Google now indexes search results based on mobile usage

As many of you know I deliver Google’s mobile masterclass to their biggest clients across Europe and the dominance of mobile in search cannot be overstated. It’s no surprise to me then that they recently announced ‘mobile-first indexing’ for search.

Previously, Google’s index was based on desktop usage of websites. But it’s made the move to primarily use mobile index for search engine result pages (SERPS) because people increasingly search for content on their mobile devices more than on their desktops.

Studies detail the trend likely to grow with the number of search queries and time spent on websites with smartphones and tablets.

So, what does it mean for digital marketers? Simply we must ensure our websites are mobile-friendly. You can take Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test – it’s as simple as typing in the URL which you can find on the blog post associated with this podcast at digitaltraining.ie.

Create Facebook Ads on the go with Ads Manager new mobile creative tools

Facebook has made it easier for marketers to create and launch ads on mobile using the Ads Manager app.

The social network has added a series of new creative options which include:

o text overlays

o logos

o stickers

o colour filters.

Images can be cropped and a text policy check ensures that copy does not exceed Facebook’s guidelines.

Facebook has also added really useful templates which are fully customisable and include stickers and other fun additions.

This is a Facebook Ads managers dream! I can’t wait to try the new features out.

Twitter allows you to dock your video while you scroll on

Twitter is rolling out a new feature that allows you to ‘dock’ videos on the platform, in order to keep watching as they scroll.

This feature is fairly simple and easy to use, you just have to tap on the dock option available at the top right of the play window in full screen, which is now present in the new version for android users.

The full screen will minimize and you can enjoy the video along with the scroll through your timeline. The screen can be moved wherever you see it fit, and when you want to stop it, just swipe it away.

INTERVIEW

Content Re-PurposingIn this episode, I interview Amy Woods, a digital entrepreneur, expert in content repurposing and podcaster.

She helps online content creators grow their audience by maximizing their return on every piece of content that they create. She is the founder of Content 10x, who provide content repurposing services to podcasters, video content creators and bloggers.

When not engaged in content re-purposing, Amy is a proud mum of two little boys, lives in Manchester, England and before setting up as an entrepreneur she spent 13 years as a management consultant, working on post-M&A restructuring for Fortune 500 companies.

Amy and I are fellow Knights on Chris Ducker’s Roundtable Mastermind and this week we took some time out to discuss re-purposing content with purpose for greater results.

You can connect with Amy via her website www.content10x.com or @content10x on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

Amy describes why re-purposing is so important:

SHOUTOUTS

In this part of the show I give shoutouts to brands, organisations or individuals whose work online is remarkable and worth talking about.

In this episode, I’m sharing three content re-purposing tools I use every single week and which I promise will ignite your content marketing.

1) Vyond

Vyond, formerly known as GoAnimate is a super easy-to-use animated video tool. Create engaging videos for web and social. Each video should communicate one clear message.

Find out more at https://www.vyond.com/

2) Rev

Rev allows you to get transcription and captions for audio or video files. I use it to transcribe audio when I’m speaking on stages or record interviews. That audio is then transformed into blog post and social posts.

Find out more at https://www.rev.com/

3) Waave

Waave allows you to re-purpose audio into social videos. I will take a snippet of Amy’s interview in this episode and overlay it with a graphic to create a short video promo enticing people to tune into the whole episode.

Ask JSB

Content Re-PurposingIn today’s episode of JSB Talks Digital, Amy Woods turns the tables on JSB and wants to know…what’s my biggest content challenge?

Great question for JSB, the digital content queen!

My biggest content challenge is not maximising the potential of my original content. I re-purpose a lot but there’s so much more I can do and in fact I have a masterplan which is going to set me up for the next 12 months.

I’ll let you into a JSB Talks Digital secret. I’ve started organising my content – videos, podcasts, blog posts, handbooks, presentations, speeches, strategies, pitches and book- to create the JSB Talks Digital Library. Who’s going to get access is another question for another day.

So, Amy I may need your help with my big re-purposing project!

If you have a digital marketing or social media question, don’t forget you will have it answered on the show by using the hashtag #AskJSB on Twitter or Instagram.

You can also leave me a voicemail with your question at www.digitaltraininginstitute.ie/askjsb.

And you can also post a message on any of my social networks!

JSB’s COLUMN

In today’s JSB’s column I want to talk to you about why I’m obsessed with content marketing.

? I’m a storyteller

? Content = Trust, Traffic & Being Talked About

? There’s a gap in search results just waiting to be filled with great content

? My audience rely on me and I’m so happy to help

? I attract my perfect client

? I own my media

? Differentiate, Define and Direct

? It’s cathartic

So, if you’re just starting out on your content marketing journey or want to revisit your strategy here’s three steps that will keep you focused and deliver results.

1. Map the content to the pain point.

2. Then use the right type of content for that problem.

3. Finally, map the content to the buying cycle of the people who have that problem.
